Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How long does it take to renovate an 18 hole course?:

A: It is important to understand that each project is site specific with regard to access, staging of materials, etc.  However, a typical complete renovation, or makeover, including reshaping tees, fairways, bunkers, new drainage, irrigation, greens construction, finish work and grassing will take between 16-20 weeks.  In the Florida market it is best to start in early April and get all the grass on the ground by mid August.  The superintendent will need 90-120 days of grow in time.

Q: How long does it take to renovate  18  greens?:

A: The typical timeline for doing a complete greens renovation to USGA spec is approximately 7-9 weeks.  This process requires a great deal of care by the Contractor in hauling material to and from the greens complex.  Great care should be given to the new greens design to insure the USGA profile depths are closely adhered to.

Q; What is the advantage of using a design build firm like Barbaron?

A: There are many advantages with the architect involved on a daily basis, time management is one. There is no delay waiting on architect approval or last minute changes. Changes can be made prior to construction or on the fly. Time delays cost money and delay opening. Another advantage is "value added" ideas can be incorporated easily during the process. Concerns for ease of maintenance and water use and drainage are addressed in the fluid process reacting to the owner’s and superintendent’s design inputs.

Q: What are the developing trends in golf course construction in the future dealing with costs, water use, and maintenance?

A: With land and construction costs continuing to rise and golfers wanting faster play we belive you will see more courses with  less holes such as 6 and 12 hole courses (which is what golf was in the beginning). See http://www.prestwick12golf.com for more information. With less land to puchase, less in construction costs and less in maintenance costs, golf will become more affordable to more people.

Also there are exciting new developments in synthetic turf which will have a dramatic effect on water needs as well as reduced maintenance costs (no over-seeding, topdressing or aerifying). See http://www.harmonypointegreens.com/
